What it is: Named for a 10,100-foot (3,079-meter) mountain in the Flint Creek Range, this spacious bar literally filled the beer-shaped hole left by the closure of Elk Ridge Brewing, moving into the brewery’s former space in downtown Deer Lodge in 2021. Yet it’s not only the town’s residents who are grateful for the bar: It’s also a prime stopping point for travelers on I-90 between Missoula and Butte or Bozeman. With a fireplace, free popcorn, and plenty of long tables for kids and backpacks, it’s ideal for groups.
Why it’s great: If the draft list doesn’t clue you in, the taxidermy will: There’s a mountain lion, mounted moose head, great horned owl, antler chandeliers—hey, you’re in Montana! The 20 taps focus on beers made in-state or in northern Idaho, with a handful of regionally made ciders and hard seltzers on draft, too. (Macro beers and wine are available in cans and bottles.) It’s obvious that the bar is locally loved, with regulars’ sticker-covered mugs lining the back bar. An air fryer and toaster oven behind the bar turn out simple snacks and pizzas, or guests are free to bring takeout. The bar will also fill growlers if you need to get back on the road.
