Fort Collins, Colorado – July 12, 2017 — Today’s media environment can be challenging, but Craft Beer & Brewing Magazine® today offered a signal of strength in announcing the hire of longtime rival beer magazine Editor John Holl. Holl, who served as the editor of All About Beer Magazine from 2013 through early 2017, has joined Craft Beer & Brewing Magazine® as Senior Editor, working alongside Cofounder and Editorial Director Jamie Bogner.
“In the spirit of cooperative competition that has defined craft beer, we’ve maintained a friendly rivalry for years, and when John expressed interest in joining our team, we didn’t hesitate for a minute,” says Bogner. His writing and storytelling are among the best in the business, and we look forward to the new perspectives, contacts, and ideas he’ll bring to our coverage.”
Since its founding in 2013, Craft Beer & Brewing Magazine® has blazed a rapid growth trajectory on the strength of pragmatic focus, high-quality content and design, online learning, and uniquely tailored events. Today, Craft Beer & Brewing Magazine® sells more copies than any other beer magazine on newsstands, and in 2017 has continued to expand with twice-a-year business-to-business special issues as well as new events such as the Brewers Retreat in Boothbay Harbor, Maine featuring brewing industry heavyweights Sam Calagione of Dogfish Head Craft Ales, Jason Perkins of Allagash Brewing Co., and more.
“Quality, independent journalism is now more important than ever,” says Holl. “Beer is personal to each drinker and Craft Beer & Brewing Magazine® regularly provides creative coverage, online learning, and digital media that help readers appreciate the liquid and make better beer. Being part of a team that is pushing forward, offering innovative events and strong content was an opportunity too good to pass up. I look forward to working with writers and traveling the country talking with both brewers and drinkers to bring the best coverage possible to the magazine and website.”
Holl, who is also the author of several books including the best-selling American Craft Beer Cookbook, will also launch a long-form interview podcast for Craft Beer & Brewing Magazine® where he will talk with the industry’s leading and creative personalities. Holl will work remotely from his home office in Jersey City, New Jersey, while the magazine remains headquartered in Fort Collins, Colorado. This cross-country approach will provide a unique strength.
“We have deep, lasting relationships with freelance contributors all over the country,” says Craft Beer & Brewing Magazine® Publisher Haydn Strauss. “Staying on top of the rapidly moving national craft-beer market is a challenge, but adding a well-traveled editor of Holl’s caliber in proximity to so many great East Coast breweries will help us deepen our coverage of brewers making inspiring craft beer.”
Holl’s tenure officially began July 10, and his work will first appear in the October-November 2017 issue of Craft Beer & Brewing Magazine®.
