12 West Brewing Company Classic Lager

What the brewers say

“Pre-Prohibition-style lager.”

What our panel thought

“Pear and apple aroma with grainy malt notes. Medium-light sweet corn. Acidic and semidry finish with notes of corn and white bread. Medium hop bitterness. Crisp, clean, and refreshing, with lively carbonation.”

What our editors thought

“Fresh and friendly aroma with white floral notes and faint mango and lime. Tropical pith bitterness in the flavor plays against the off-dry sweetness for a delicate modern balance.”

Bent Water Brewing Company Premium Lager

“Light corn aroma, easy floral notes. Light pome fruit initially with medium grainy and bready malt, medium-light floral hops, and light hop bitterness. Crisp and dry with some lingering hop spice. Clean, semidry finish. Rustic.”

Twin Span Brewing Lager Dam 14

Clean, floral and perfume like hops notes in the aroma are followed by a firmly bitter but crisp sit with some nice corn-like sweetness to counter the bold but well balanced bitterness. Red apple skin-forward, cidery aromatics with a touch of noble grassy hops. More a grainy character in flavor, but drinks quite lean. Bitterness cuts away nearly all the sweetness. Incredibly refreshing, and approachable—alcohols are subdued. The apparently cidery character in conjunction with offsetting flavor, works really well together. Snappy and crisp in the finish with a nice lingering bitterness.

Prost Brewing Company Summer Lager

“Medium grainy malt and slightly sweet corn, rather crisp and bone dry. Light acidity. Light floral and herbal hops with light hop bitterness. Semidry finish and low bitterness. Fresh and crisp. Lawnmower beer.”
