What the brewers say

“The medium-bodied mouthfeel produces a soft, crackery maltiness followed by spicy, slightly crackery notes.”

What our panel thought

“Moderate biscuit and piecrust malt. Low floral hop. Malt-forward in aroma, shifts toward hops as it warms. Quite deep malt flavor—biscuit and bread crust—though not quite as deep or melanoidin as a true Czech pale. Light honey back note. Finishes a touch honey sweet with lingering malt and bitterness emerging right at the end.”

What our editors thought

“Honeysuckle floral note in the nose leads into a balanced sweet floral and herbal bitter sip.”

BKS Artisan Ales Current Past (Blue Label)

“Punchy from the get-go. Nose is a strong blend of hop pellets, Lemonheads, white grapes. The flavor is similar but with less dimension. Biscuit malt flavors are a canvas for fruity/piney/slightly herbaceous hops. Firm and satisfying bitterness. Leans sweet, with a full mouthfeel.”

Alma Mader Brewing Small Oasis

Lingering white foam with rocky bubbles. Aroma of dankness and earth, with notes of Honeycrisp apple, strawberry, and light raspberry. In the flavor, pleasant bitterness mingles with the sweetness; slight green-apple hop bite joins sticky diesel dankness and leads it slightly astray.

Three Creeks Brewing Co Tres Arroyos Mexican Lager

Clean aroma of sweet, doughy malt, with notes of sweetcorn, dinner rolls, and hint of damp earth. Light, sweet flavor, balanced by a light touch of earthy hop-bitterness. Leans sweet but dries out a bit. Sweet bread notes linger. Clean crowd-pleaser lacking depth.
