Alaskan Brewing Company Alaskan Stout
Aroma: “Pleasant malt complexity, with caramel carrying a light roast. Inviting, strong malt sweetness, with vanilla and low fruity esters plus some medium chocolate and coffee character. Hints of hazelnut, vanilla, some dark fruit. Roastiness, but only as it warms. Aromas of peanut butter and dried cherry.”
Flavor: “Very nice malt character: nutty, caramel, and coffee candy. Sweet up front but the finish tones that down. Chocolate cake with a dark chocolate/cacao nib frosting. Smooth mouthfeel from the oats. A mild bit of ester fruitiness, but it works well with everything else.”
Overall: “It’s a wonderful beer with a complex chocolate character and a great round body. Full but not chewy. Very enjoyable with nice malty sweetness and creaminess.”
