Amalgam Brewing Blushing Star

What the brewers say

“Golden sour aged on Blushing Star peaches.”

What our panel thought

“Big ripe peach aroma. Flavor follows up with substantial ripe peach plus a big lactic sourness and low funk. Slight grainy malt. The finish is quite fruity with exaggerated sweet peach notes.”

What our editors thought

“Juicy peach with cherry and strawberry flourishes on the nose. The sip is bracingly acid-forward, with a round earthy peach flavor that would be irresistible but for the overwhelming acid.”

Amalgam Brewing Oloroso

Musty mushroom funk, bordering on umami, with leather, oak, vanilla, wet hay, lemon, slate. That mineral emerges more in the flavor, but the acidity is a bit much. Dry, puckering finish. Barrel-funky, sour, but enjoyable.

Amalgam Brewing Boysenbarrel

“Sweet berry notes coupled with hints of orange creamsicle, brown sugar, vanilla. In the flavor, a bold acidic and tart punch of blackberry and currant.”

Mother's Brewing Co. Blush! Pomegranate Hibiscus Wit

__Aroma:__ “Nice wit character: orange peel, light phenols, floral hibiscus seems to be there and fits in nicely. There’s a sweet undertone too, tied to the hibiscus, as well as some toasty malt and graham cracker.” __Flavor:__ “Although it is refreshing and clean, the flavor doesn’t quite live up to the nose. The fruity pomegranate berry character is nice with some sweetness and fruit notes. It has a delicate tartness and the hibiscus adds depth and works well with the berries.” __Overall:__ “Beautiful nose, tolerable flavor. An interesting mix of tart pomegranate and high carbonation with an underlying wheat note. Herbal is in the middle and quickly dissipates into the aftertaste.”
