What the brewers say

“Selected malts smoked in small batches in a commercial smoker using local alderwood.”

What our panel thought

“Fairly prominent campfire in the aroma; notes of caramel, breadcrust. Apparent smoke in the flavor, like bacon on a cast-iron skillet over campfire. Smoke goes a little plasticky. Medium-full body. Smoky, lingering finish.”

What our editors thought

“Light woodsmoke in the nose—less BBQ, more fragrant charred wood. Smoke is subtle in the sip, tucked into a mellow, smooth, dark-chocolate bitterness. Rounded, cohesive.”
