Area Two Experimental Brewing Barrel-Aged Chocolate Cookie Stout

What the brewers say

"Barrel-aged chocolate cookie stout with natural flavors added."

What our panel thought

“Intoxicating chocolate-pastry aroma—big, bready cookie dough. Flavor brings big coconut, toasted bread crust, fresh-baked cookie, and moderately sweet chocolate. Like warm cookies soaked in rich liqueur. Huge coconut macaroon notes. Finishes sweet, with lingering coconut and creamy roast. Slightly harsh warmth. Big, chewy mouthfeel. Chocolate pastry bomb.”

What our editors thought

“An almost perfumy coconut note on the nose with nutty back notes leads to a sip that throws a vegetal edge on otherwise toasty-sweet elements.”

Highland Park Brewery Infinitefinite

“Oaky highlights support whiskey and roast in the aroma. Then light coffee, chocolate followed by raisin, black currant. Loads of espresso, dark chocolate on the sip while sweetness and oaky vanilla lend a decadent dessert-like quality.”

Single Hill Brewing Company Osa Major

“Nutty chocolate aroma with a tart, carbonic bite. Rich roast malt, licorice, with hints of clove and cinnamon, reminiscent of Mexican hot chocolate. Spicy through the finish. Finish a touch sweet. Medium full body.”

Bend Brewing Barrel Aged Trade War

Aroma of dark chocolate, red fruits—raspberry, dark cherry. Nice breadth of roast flavors—chocolate, dried raspberry, coffee, toffee. Creamy body; finish leans acrid. Tobacco and vanilla notes emerge. Fruity character works with malt-chocolate and barrel-vanilla. Like a strong export stout.
