What the brewers say

“Fresh roasted coffee and toasted coconut added to our Weller barrel–aged stout.”

What our panel thought

“Dark-roast coffee combines with earthy hop notes, oak, vanilla notes. Initial sip is sweet with coconut, chocolate, sweetened condensed milk. Some roast coffee notes attempt to balance the sweetness.”

What our editors thought

“Strong coffee nose steals the spotlight, with some light green-pepper/vegetal notes creeping in. The sip dives into full caramel latté territory, thick and syrupy with an intense sweet decadence only broken by reminders from the aroma.”

Barn Town Brewing Co. Vanilla Chocolate City

“Velvety vanilla, whiskey, tobacco, toasted cocoa in the nose. Very flavor-forward: sweet raw vanilla, sweet caramel, but a chocolate bomb! Brownie base and Tootsie Roll. Long, sweet finish.”

Barn Town Brewing Co. Stink Stank Stunk

“Bright and sunny from the first sip. Hefty hop aroma, with notes of bright orange, honey. Popping flavors of honey, tangerine, orange, peach held together by a soft, lightly grainy malt structure. Slight sweetness stays on the tongue. On and off the tongue quickly. Slight warming in the middle, but this is all balanced and executed quite well.”

Barn Town Brewing Co. Neon Hazy IPA

“A sweet grapefruit, tropical-fruit, candied-orange, pine aroma. Substantial malt, but still hop-forward with green herbs, pine, lemon drops. Firm bitterness is balanced with spicy alcohol notes. The finish has strong grapefruit notes, so while the beer starts with an impression of sweetness, that vanishes at the end.”
