What the brewers say

Our brewmaster, Keith Villa, wanted to craft a beer inspired by Belgian wits. He brewed his interpretation using Valencia orange peel versus the traditional tart curaçao orange peel, for a subtle sweetness. Oats and wheat create a smooth, creamy finish.

What our panel thought

Aroma: “Citrus orange notes come through with spicy pepper and coriander aromas. Malt sweetness in the back. Floral and almost spicy aroma. Slight grain sweetness with hints of lemon zest. Coriander aroma is slightly stale, bordering on artificial.”

Flavor: “Good balance of acidity and malt background with a creamy mouthfeel. Coriander and some spicy pepper notes. Good balance of citrus orange sweetness with peppery and spicy flavor. A bit too thick and chewy for the style, but nice acidic carbonation.”

Overall: “A good example of the style, but just a bit too heavy and sweet. Still, a refreshing, complex take on a wit. Spices, tartness, and sweetness carry through. Good balance of citrus and spice.”
