New Planet Beer Company Brown Ale
What the brewers say
“This rich, dark, and decidedly tasty ale is brewed with coffee and cocoa which lend a complex and roasted flavor profile to balance the brown sugar notes of a typical American Brown Ale.”
What our panel thought
Aroma: “Smoke and cherries, oniony hops with a hint of tomato, spice, and blood. Molasses, dark malt-like sweetness and earthiness. Strong butterscotch notes. Light apple- and pear-like undertones.”
Flavor: “Some sweetness. Right out of the gates, a strong black currant-like bitterness followed by a metallic presence that competes with onion, tomato, and grapefruit juice. Harsh astringency with some cider-like tartness and flavors.”
Overall: “The beer has a lot of strong flavors of onion, vegetables. The nose was better than the flavor. Lots of unusual flavors: iron, tomatoes, and black currant.”
