What the brewers say

Collab with Half Acre Brewing. Baltic porter brewed with hickory bark.

What our panel thought

Complex, intriguing nose: notes of strong, woodsy green tea, tobacco, nutty malt. Almost smoky. Flavor brings another dimension, as stronger hickory brings a green wood touch that pairs well with deep malt—toffee, dates, dark toast, mocha. Wood character obscures the beer’s details. Unique.

What our editors thought

Unusually earthy nose evokes lichen-covered forest logs—borderline dank with subtle chocolate notes. In the sip, chocolate pushes forward with slight, medium-dark sweetness and lingering herb. More quizzical than distracting.
