Ghost Hawk Brewing Company Snowball Effect "Winter-Style" Wheat Ale

What the brewers say

“American wheat with Simcoe hops.”

What our panel thought

“Earthy and dank hop aromatics blend with light hints of citrus and crackery wheat character. Hop flavors of pine, orange peel, lime, grapefruit, strawberry, and guava are balanced by a grainy malt sweetness. Balance leans bitter, and the bitterness lingers into the finish.”

What our editors thought

“Fruity hop note on the nose mashes up orange and orange peel with funky and peppery papaya and guava. That pepper defines the sip with a bold hit that settles into tropical aqua fresca.”

Silver City Neon Bloom

“Distinctly orange peel and tangerine tropical aromas give way to a slightly dry, crisp flavor profile with aspects of lemongrass, wheat, and coriander. Accentuating the citrus notes are hops characteristics that are equal parts grapefruit pith, orange peel, lemon, and pine. The slightly thin nature of the mouthfeel and the moderate carbonation seem to accentuate the dryness in the finish, making it crisp, but a bit watery.”

Coors Brewing Company Blue Moon Belgian White

**Aroma:** “Citrus orange notes come through with spicy pepper and coriander aromas. Malt sweetness in the back. Floral and almost spicy aroma. Slight grain sweetness with hints of lemon zest. Coriander aroma is slightly stale, bordering on artificial.” **Flavor:** “Good balance of acidity and malt background with a creamy mouthfeel. Coriander and some spicy pepper notes. Good balance of citrus orange sweetness with peppery and spicy flavor. A bit too thick and chewy for the style, but nice acidic carbonation.” **Overall:** “A good example of the style, but just a bit too heavy and sweet. Still, a refreshing, complex take on a wit. Spices, tartness, and sweetness carry through. Good balance of citrus and spice.”

Samuel Adams Boston Taproom American Light

“Crisp, clean, and refreshing neutral grain, malty aroma with a hint of fresh-cut grass. Thirst-quenching with a light hop bitterness. Water-cracker-esque malt and a touch of earthy hops. Refreshingly clean, with a slightly zesty zip. Crisp finish. Great summertime quencher.”
