Melvin Brewing Eureka (House of Flying Barrels) Three Years!

What the brewers say

“S’mores-inspired smoked imperial stout blended with bourbon barrel–aged imperial stout with vanilla beans, maple syrup, cacao, cinnamon, graham crackers added.”

What our panel thought

“The beer is presented still (not sure if that is intentional). Bitter baker’s chocolate aromatics combined with hints of oaky vanilla create an interesting and inviting nose. The balanced flavor combination of dark chocolate, vanilla, oak, roast malt creates a flavor profile that ticks a lot of boxes for the dessert-stout lover.”

What our editors thought

“Can held very little pressure, vacuum led to crumpled sides. Spicy oak tannin, cinnamon, coconut, and vanilla barrel notes in the nose. Very low carb in the sip gives it a sweet and sprawling flavor without enough roast to structure on its own.”

Melvin Brewing Eureka (House of Flying Barrels) 2 Years

“Muted earthy aroma, with chocolate, coconut, and roast coffee in the background. Very sweet coconut and chocolate flavors, as coffee, vanilla, and earthy notes trail behind. Overripe fruit plum notes.”

Melvin Brewing Eureka (House of Flying Barrels) Mindful Monkeys

“Pulpy bright orange color with a steady white head. Passion fruit–mango nose. Tart tangerine flavor has a vinous, almost champagne quality that dances around the fruit components. A moderate amount of sourness lingers slightly on the tongue. One for the white-wine fans.”

Melvin Brewing Eureka (House of Flying Barrels) Death Muffin

“Vanilla aroma with coffee and cream. Deep-flavored fudge, vanilla, almond hit the palate first followed by subdued cinnamon, banana. Sweetness at the end quickly leaves the tongue. Hefty mouthfeel.”
