Reuben's Brews Three Ryes Men: Apple Pie

What the brewers say

Brewed with three kinds of rye malt and aged in a blend of apple brandy barrels and cinnamon whisky barrels, this homage to a classic American pie adds notes of baking spice and caramel apple to our award-winning barleywine.

What our panel thought

What our editors thought

Round and fleshy baked apple notes in the nose with a light herbal freshness and just a hint of cinnamon. Warming and familiar in the flavor, reassuring and comfortable, but dries out convincingly in the finish from the oak tannin and cinnamon spice.

Reuben's Brews BBIS: Amburana

“Spicy nose, hints of cinnamon, light oak, vanilla. Leaves a Mexican-chocolate impression throughout. Flavor includes some capsicum, chocolate, light coffee. Somewhat thin body highlights the spice and unusual wood.”

Green Bench Brewing Co The Pursuit

“Dark rum leads the aroma, tailed by chocolate, dark caramel, maple, brown sugar, toffee, dark fruit. Rum stays in the front of flavor as well, with spicy richness that helps cut through any cloying sweetness.”

Reuben's Brews Three Ryes Men 2021

“Caramel and vanilla aroma balanced by a pepper-like spice with hints of leather and tobacco. Toffee- and vanilla-like sweetness along with pleasant oak character. The perception of heat is likely as much rye malt–driven as it is spirit-derived.”
