What the brewers say

Strong, smooth porter fermented cold for a month in stainless before lagering for an additional four months in a Missouri white oak lager foeder.

What our panel thought

Licorice aroma with coffee, toffee, caramel, hazelnut, cocoa; hints of raisin, Port, green pepper. Flavor focuses on caramel with rising cocoa; roast coffee takes charge, with coconut, raisin, light praline, dried fruit. Pleasantly complex.

What our editors thought

Understated nose—faint licorice and toasted bread lead to a far more assertive sip, where fruity dark chocolate and smooth, light-roast coffee floral-ness add top notes to rich malt bass thumps. Figuring it out provides a pint’s worth of entertainment.
