Highland Brewing Southern Nouveau Cafe au Lait

What the brewers say

"Barrel-aged imperial breakfast stout with coffee, maple syrup, vanilla, cacao nibs, and lactose."

What our panel thought

"Coffee, maple, and chocolate aroma. The sip brings maple-caramel sweetness, roast coffee, and light cinnnamon-spice bitterness; a charred note and warmth round out the sweet, coffee-led finish."

What our editors thought

"Smooth chicory-coffee nose; a bit of vanilla-barrel sweetness. The sip offers smooth, creamy dark chocolate, light coffee, and an airy but defined sweet lightness."

Fifty West Brewing Saturday Morning Cartoons

Light green coffee with subtle hints of chocolate and barrel spice. Light on the stout character. Some cara-mel sweetness and toast. Decidedly tart on the finish. Comes across as a mixture of dark malt and light fruit character.

Flying Dog Brewery Operation Breakfast

Sweet vanilla nose rounds out coffee, red-berry esters, and dark-chocolate. In the flavor, roast-malt sharpness tempers mild sweetness, light caramel plays with vanilla and fig-cherry esters. Solidly presented, rich coffee stout. Very mochaccino.

Madhouse Brewing Barrel Aged Carpe Diem 2019

Coffee, chocolate, and bourbon flood the front end of each sip with quiet waves of maple and vanilla round-ing out the finish. This thing is thick and overtly sweet. The bourbon stays up front, and no other barrel charac-ter makes an appearance.
