Westbound & Down Brewing Company Acid Jazz Vol. 3

What the brewers say

A fusion of our two house mixed-cultures, old and new, aged in large format oak vessels.

What our panel thought

Barnyard funk jumps from the glass—notes of leather, hay, horse blanket, lemongrass, bready malt. Lemon emerges more in flavor—with tangerine and peach—with strong acidity that hits early and slowly fades, hindering drinkability. Leathery notes emerge in finish.

What our editors thought

Dirty pineapple funk in the nose, with hefty oak overpowering more delicate elements. Strong acidity drives the sip with pineapple and lemon notes; Brett funk appears as they subside. Screeching high notes push aside subtlety.

REVIEWS FOR YOU >

Blackberry Farm Brewery Farm & Fury

Herbal, floral notes; leather, hay, funk emerging as it warms. Malt is biscuit, light toast; light nectarine, citrus, white grape. Finishes tart, dry, nicely clean.

American Solera Coolship Roadtrip

Bright orange, firm white head. Layers of pepper, lemon, lime fill the nose, underlying woody Brett, spicy hops. Layers of moldering leaves and fertile earth; like being in Mirkwood. Medium body; spicy phenols alongside aggressive but balanced barnyard. Assertive lactic sourness without a burn. Remarkably complex beer. Great balance of tart lactic acid, earthy wood, and spicy pepper phenolics.

Our Mutual Friend Brewing Memory Rediscovered

Sweet, floral fruit in the nose, like ripe, peeled apricot/peach. Touch of Brett and citrus. Cinnamon notes emerge as it warms. Tangy, juicy peach/apricot flavor, moderately sweet up front before dissolving in the sparkles into an earthy dryness and lasting tang.
