What the brewers say

We infuse our pre-Prohibition-style ale with light roast beans from Columbus’ own One Line Coffee in addition to robust vanilla.

What our panel thought

A sniff drops you into a vanilla latte swirl—coffee, caramel, butterscotch. Flavor: a vanilla showcase, raising the beer ante with piney hops and some bitterness. Coffee is restrained, tempering the malt-vanilla sweetness. Finish is more bitter than expected. Vanilla out of balance.

What our editors thought

Bold vanilla on the nose with a bit of coffee—more fruit and chocolate than roast. The sip is delicate for such an ambitiously flavored beer, with pointed vanilla and judicious coffee. Surprising subtlety.
