Moa Brewing Company Apple Cider

What the brewers say

“Made from 100 percent New Zealand– grown apples and fermented with French oak, Moa Apple has a crisp green apple aroma and the clean taste is finished nicely with medium sweetness.”

What our panel thought

Aroma: “Light oak/vanilla and more leathery Brett present (albeit mild). Has a slight sour/lambic quality with lemon acidic notes. Very nice green apple and white wine aroma.”

Flavor: “Tightly contained apple character with plenty of lemony tartness yet not much edge—more sweet apple than tart complexity. Structure is very balanced with tannin, sweetness, and apple flavors adding dimension. Green apple comes forward as it warms and the wood adds a pleasant vanilla-caramel note.”

Overall: “This is a favorite. Complexity is driven by both the apples and the wood. Some oaky character, but overall it’s a mild, simple take with green and sweet apple, balanced acidity, and a very clean yeast profile that make it easy to love. There’s a very good flow from aroma to lingering aftertaste with strong apple and caramel notes throughout and a pleasant moderate sweetness at the end.”
