What the brewers say

“10° Plato Czech pale lager.”

What our panel thought

“Nice bready pilsner malt aroma with a touch of spicy hops. Despite the malt-forward aroma, the flavor delivers a strong hoppy message. The malt is still present but lurks behind a moderate spicy hop flavor and assertive, but clean, bitterness. Not quite as pronounced as a German pils, but it’s approaching the border.”

What our editors thought

“Warm but defined floral notes on the nose give it a welcoming feel. Flavorful malt and a bit of floral hop depth make the sip intriguing without demanding excess attention.”

“Roasted malt, coffee, and a hint of smoke in the aroma complemented by a touch of herbal hops. The flavor is a nice interplay of bitter dark chocolate, roasted malt, and floral hops tied together by a gentle smoky character. The finish is crisp and clean with just a touch of bitter roast lingering into the next sip.”

Rich malt palate in the aroma, like a smoked cup of spiced chocolate; the smoke adds layers to toast, caramel, hints of fig and raisin, cardamom, dried cherry. Caramel shifts to toffee on the tongue, adding some roast and plum to the mix. Rich without being overly heavy or chewy. Smooth and seductive smoke, suggesting aromatic pipe tobacco. Definitely something for the fireplace on a cold evening.

Bubblegum, citrus, pineapple in the nose. Sweetness from the hops gives the perception of a sweeter beer. Almost chile pepper–like finish with grape notes. Very creative interpretation.
