Baere Brewing Company Amparo (FKA Saison with Pomace)

What the brewers say

“Aged on sosoa wine pomace.”

What our panel thought

“Strong fruity aroma plays coy with the fruit used. Aroma is fermentation-derived with pear, peach, and grape. Light citrus sourness with earthy notes of hay, wood, and barn. Light wine-like finish.”

What our editors thought

“The color suggests fruit, but the nose offers just a broad red-fruit note with hefty hay. In the sip, thoughtfully downplayed grape adds a spritz without jammy notes.”

Black Shirt Brewing Co. Pleasure to Meet You

Orange Julius nose, tangerine, pineapple, melon, light pear, hint of aged cheese. Low sweetness, moderate acidity accentuates juicy flavor. Strawberry, pear, hints of wool blanket, smoke in the finish. Doesn’t cross into IPA territory, but close. Complex, with weird edges, coming together well.

Perennial Artisan Ales Hainaut

Bright gold with lush foam and lace. Bright Noble-hop aroma, spicy and grassy, with Sprite-like lemon-lime notes and clean, bready malt. Soft smoke-and-spice phenolics. Soft, light, grainy flavor, with simple but pleasant herbal-grassy bitterness and notes of pepper and light fruit. Lively. Fairly bitter. Dry finish with lingering pepper-spice. Tastes like a well-made pilsner given an expressive fermentation. Very nice.

Baere Brewing Company Saison

“Classic saison aromas of spicy phenols, fruity esters, cracker malt, herbal hops. Moderate sulfur aromatics slowly dissipate and reveal hints of pepper and bread-like malt. The flavor is a lively back-and-forth with peppery spice.”
