Barn Town Brewing Co. Move Aside & Let the Mango Through

What the brewers say

“Brewed with strawberries and mangos. Strawberry candy on the nose, followed by flavors of overripe strawberries and juicy mango. Tart and juicy!”

What our panel thought

“Bombastic strawberry aroma and flavor assault the senses in a good way, like a sweet, strawberry daiquiri, without a hint of alcohol. This is mock-daiquiri served at prom. A sugary, strawberry Starburst in liquid form. The mango flavors are promptly pushed to the back of the line. A semi-smoothie beer in appearance, texture, mouthfeel, and flavor. They forgot the sour (and the beer!). Ends in a cotton candy–like finish that stays on the tongue.”

What our editors thought

“Sweet mango candy in the nose, with an almost watermelon back note and a sweet fruit-soda intensity. Very sweet in the sip, but the strong and real fruit grounds it with layers of tropical funk that buffer the sweetness. Bold and inventive.”

Barebottle Brewing Company Mango Flossie

“The aroma leaves an almost fruity hop-like impression. Big peach, apricot, mango flavors hit the tongue and are then mellowed by the sourness. Vanilla and coriander are there in the background, supporting the main flavors and helping round and smooth everything out.”

Uhl’s Brewing Co Blackberry * Peach Fruit Compote

“Red-orange, opaque smoothie. Fruity, creamy nose with strong vanilla, evoking beach cocktails or coconut-peach pie. Flavors of tropical fruit, peach, blackberry, coconut, vanilla. Restrained sourness. Round finish. Vanilla flirts with ‘artificial.’ Noticeable warming alcohol—Malibu rum.”

2nd Shift Brewing Sunny Cat

Delicate, tart citrus notes don’t make you guess—zesty aromatherapy. Tangerine peels stand apart from the crowd, working well with piney hops and bitterness. Light-bodied, slightly low carb, but full of citrus flavor. Base beer supports the heavy zest without distracting, and the bitterness balances the residual malt sweetness very well. The finish is like good marmalade—a mixture of sweetness and bitterness, with complex citrus-zest flavors.
