Burial Beer Co Too Much To Bear Cuvee of Cognac, Bourbon, and Calvados Barrel-Aged Strong Ales

What the brewers say

“Strong ale bases aged on Cognac, bourbon, and Calvados barrels for one to two years.”

What our panel thought

“Dark fruit, light caramel, and whiskey in the nose. Burnt toast and bitter dark malts lead into a sweet, deep butterscotch finish. Huge chocolate and roast notes, stone fruit mixed with subtle leather.”

What our editors thought

“Curiously deep spirits nose, more layered than singular with cinnamon, roasted almond, and vinous highlights. Subtle chai spice and cassia add dimension to the rich caramel and hot chocolate of the sip.”

Burial Beer Co That Which Hides Behind Our Dread

“Aromatic sweet dark cherries, dark chocolate, and vanilla. Cognac and bourbon offers an exciting combination that finishes sweet with notes of light roast, dark cherries, pale chocolate, and rich toffee. Very smooth flavor. Low carbonation and semisweet in the finish.”

Burial Beer Fall of the Damned (2019)

Fresh blackberry/raspberry dominates aroma. Jammy. Light balanced acidity. Notes of Brett leather, wood, and raspberry seed. Deep ruby, lightly hazy pour with very good retention. Flavor is acidic up front, well-balanced. Just a touch of wheaty dough and bread. Fruit complexity very good and generally blends with the acid well, though it does tend to dominate the beer overall. Finish is dry and very tart but clears off the palate relatively quickly.

North Park Beer Co. Bourbon Barrel Aged Death Before Dying (2022)

“Layered milk chocolate, caramel, honey, hints of dried fruit in the nose create depth. Sip is less complex with more direct flavor notes of roast, chocolate, whiskey. Light carbonation, sweet and rich.”
