Ciderie Daufresne Poiré

What the brewers say

“Pear cider produced from four local varieties.”

What our panel thought

“Great nose, effervescent, strong fruit initially, then hints of must and perfume. Soft floral, woody notes with light cinnamon. Semisweet, pear-like in its earthiness. Pleasant, refreshing, balanced. Not as tannic as most French ciders.”

What our editors thought

“A red floral note and burnt caramel note on the nose carries through into the sip where it balances the sweet but rich and meaty fruit flavor.”

Sidras Bereziartua Sagardoak Bereziartura

“Great nose: _Brett_-like goaty funk, earthy, leathery with hints of cinnamon. Dry, well-crafted with funky complexity and nice depth.”

Hop Butcher For the World Roost

“Commanding, well-executed, happy marriage of hops: earthy, subtle fruit notes of passion fruit and orange, dank, and fresh-cut grass. The flavor profile extends the old school meets new school contour. Bitterness stays medium low, but leaves some sweetness hanging out, a detour from the pronounced hop boldness.”

Les Vergers de la Colline CID Original

**Aroma:** “A bit of honey, grass, and jasmine. Floral element is pleasant, but it seems chaotic and slightly muddled—a fermentation issue? Light green apple and a very light touch of sulfur that blows off quickly, then notes of pineapple and pear.” **Flavor:** “Strong honey character in the flavor, but the apple element is more generic. A bit of astringency in the mouth that the sweetness doesn’t fix. Aftertaste is moderately drying with strong green apple and moderate lingering acidity. Light flavor as well, but it works: it’s mostly just apple, but it’s nuanced apple flavor, with some mild complexity and maybe a hint of pear. Finishes clean.” **Overall:** “Nothing challenging, but some great apple character. Finish has a nice tartness, but the astringency won’t leave me alone—I would not make this a first choice. Good cider, crisp and refreshing. Could drink this most of an evening.”
