Cruz Blanca Brewery Paloma

What the brewers say

“Wheat ale conditioned on grapefruit zest and juice; fermented on house mixed cultures.”

What our panel thought

“Gentle floral notes in the aroma. Sweet and tart grapefruit with a bone-dry funkiness that ends on a dry white-wine component. Prickly acidity and carbonation bring grapefruit to the forefront without being overpowering.”

What our editors thought

“Wheaty aroma with very light citrus tones, high-key and floating. Ultra-soft sip with plush but taut malt and citrus zest, like the stretchy webbing on a modern office chair. Lingering zesty bitterness sits on the tongue.”

Cruz Blanca Brewery Buena Cultura

“Funk in the aroma leans hard into the barnyard, with notes of leather, horse blanket, a touch of baby diaper. Nice Meyer lemon and peppery notes in the flavor, complemented by hints of dank hops and pine. Low acidity. Nice hint of wood that helps drive the dry and lightly bitter finish. Funky and fresh.”

Cruz Blanca Brewery Vidamiga

“A very inviting nose nicely balances sour bread and citrus, and the flavor is a perfect harmony of sweet and sour raw bread dough with a firm but restrained earthy citrus finish. Earthy lime notes with hints of ginger and mint in the aroma give way to a flavor profile that adds a hint of salinity and smokiness to the mojito-like lime and ginger notes. A touch of pine-like bitterness coupled with a bright acidity carries through into the finish.”

Cruz Blanca Brewery Solamente

“Dark honey and pastry (baklava!) in the aroma. A lactic lemony tartness balances the sweetness. In the flavor, Peach Ring candies quickly nosedive into limoncello then gimlet cocktail.”
