Cruz Blanca Brewery Wild Honey (2023)

What the brewers say

“Brewed with local wheat, barley. Fermented with Ethiopian white honey.”

What our panel thought

“Green-apple tartness in the aroma with some spicy hops. Saltine-cracker malt backbone for the lightly sour characteristics. Enough hop bitterness to balance the aftertaste. Finishes with an earthy dryness. Refreshing with the fruity tartness. Light, spritzy, and polished.”

What our editors thought

“Deeper honey on toasted rustic bread aroma. Almost chewy, with fresh, zesty citrus behind it. Dry with light pineapple glints in the sip, doughy but direct with a defined pine-apple-rind bitterness.”

Abandoned Building Brewery Lola's Belgian Farmhouse Saison

“Hay and lemongrass with hints of banana hit the nose first. A sweet, funky amalgamation of herby, citrusy spice. PIllowy peppercorn with floral grace notes. Biscuity malt lays the groundwork for effervescent carbonation and a bitter finish. A minerality to the aftertaste.”

Devil's Club Brewing Friends in Rural Places

“Muted aroma reminiscent of a jelly sandwich. Strong, clean sour. Cherry flavor comes through slightly and builds on the sour base. A slight licorice aftertaste.”

Cruz Blanca Brewery Smoke Alley

“A light bready note starts off the aroma, then earthy and dank hop notes are complemented by a light dose of smoke with hints of lemon. The smoke notes carry through into the light bready flavor and add a savory character that complements the bittersweet profile. Hints of lemony citrus and and green tea add further layers. Medium-low bittering fits in well with everything else. It all finds a way to come together and work.”
