Epic Brewing Munich Mayhem

What the brewers say

“Brewed with crystal and pilsner malts, Tettnang and Saaz hops.”

What our panel thought

“Soft biscuit, toast, bread crust, and light caramel aroma. Light floral and spicy hops. Lightly sweet, very toasty, biscuity, deeply toasted bread crust. Medium-floral and light, spicy-peppery hop character complements sweetness. Light apricot and golden-currant esters. Dry but not austere finish.”

What our editors thought

“Sweet bread with a bit of sourdough-crust tang in the aroma. Loud in the sip, with strong nutty malt and equally firm herbal hops.”

Two Roads Brewing Co Ok2berfest

“Solid malt aroma—light toast, pie crust, biscuit. Hint of caramel, apricot, honey. Light floral hops. Dried apricot and caramel are followed by a rich toast and biscuit flavor. Apricot and golden-currant notes follow. Hop flavor is lightly floral and herbal. Medium and smooth bittering balances the malt nicely.”

Pontoon Brewing Company Business Time

“Hints of citrus hops and oaky vanilla balance caramel, toffee, chocolate, brown sugar in the nose. A char note and a hop bitterness temper the sweetness. A papery oxidative character tones down the sweetness.”

Templin Family Brewing Munich Style Helles

“Perfectly clear light golden, large, bright white head that stays around. Subdued aromas of herbal hops and soft bread. Grainy, slightly toasty malt flavors. The moderate clean bitterness from the hops just balances the malt character. Clean, dry finish, with a light herbal hop finish. Very light and drinkable but somewhat one dimensional.”
