What the brewers say

“English-style barleywine comes out after an 18-month nap in bourbon barrels.”

What our panel thought

“Toffee and caramel in the nose are accentuated by shortbread cookie and subtle hints of vanilla, coconut, mint, and almond. The cookie note is more pronounced in the flavor, with elements of pistachio and cashew. Boozy character creates a fairly abrupt finish.”

What our editors thought

“Milk chocolate, plum, and tobacco in the nose with a through line of fruity caramel. The flavor tilts to burnt sugar with light bitterness. A bit thin, but pleasantly structured.”
