West Sixth Brewing Co. Meadoweisse Berliner Weisse

What the brewers say

“A crisp, refreshing sour German ale that is light in body and very tart with flavors reminiscent of sourdough bread.”

What our panel thought

“Gentle peach, apricot, and nectarine-like stone fruit and citrus aromas give way to a restrained but noticeable tartness and mild acidity. Lactic notes are well-rounded and complementary. On the sweeter side, but malty presence softens overall acidity.”

What our editors thought

“Light stone-fruit acidity on the nose with apricot and peach. The sip hits hard with a shock of bright acid still maintaining that stone-fruit edge. A touch of sweetness balances the acidity while still finishing dry.”

Dovetail Brewery Rauch Doppelbock

Assertive beechwood smoke—neither acrid nor harsh—swaddles toasty malt in the aroma. Flavor is plenty smoky—rich dark malt has enough sweetness to balance it. Slightly cloying profile, emphasizing caramel and toffee. Needs a crisper foundation. Finish is sweet and lingering.

West Sixth Brewing Co Tart Cherry Crumble

“Pleasant rounded aroma with vanilla, berry, and a bit of cinnamon spice. The flavor is a baker’s delight—mellow Chinese cinnamon, Door County cherries, pillowy vanilla—giving the impression of pie. Restrained, but packed with flavor.”

West Sixth Brewing Co Pay it Forward Cocoa Porter

“Bright citrus and pine notes emerge out of the roast, chocolate, and coffee malt aroma. The interplay of roasted malt, caramel sweetness, and piney hops continues into the flavor in a back-and-forth with just enough body to hold it all together without getting in the way. Transitions to a sweeter finish with chocolate waves coming through on the back end.”
