Silver City Neon Bloom

What the brewers say

“A spin on the classic American wheat ale, Neon Bloom is enhanced with Lemon Drop and Citra hops, backed with natural lemon peel for a fresh and fragrant experience.”

What our panel thought

“Distinctly orange peel and tangerine tropical aromas give way to a slightly dry, crisp flavor profile with aspects of lemongrass, wheat, and coriander. Accentuating the citrus notes are hops characteristics that are equal parts grapefruit pith, orange peel, lemon, and pine. The slightly thin nature of the mouthfeel and the moderate carbonation seem to accentuate the dryness in the finish, making it crisp, but a bit watery.”

What our editors thought

“Strong lemon on the nose overpowers everything. On the sip, the hops push forward with a balanced bitterness over the citrus bite. It flirts with lemon-cleaner disaster but pulls through in the finish with a balance of sweet and sour.”

Epic Brewing Intermountain Wheat

“A pleasantly dank, piney, and slightly hops-forward wheat beer that walks the line. The distinct, wheat-forward malt backbone gives it a light and clean body in which the predominant hops characteristics can play.”

Live Oak Primus Weizenbock

“Rich toffee, coffee, raisin notes with a peppery spiciness. Chewy, toasted malt with a lingering nutty quality. Great combination of spiciness, carbonation, and alcoholic heat on the finish. Rich, creamy, and complex without being cloying. Some might find the clove character a bit much, but it is certainly in the wheelhouse of the style.”

Blackberry Farm Brewery Spring Saison

**Aroma:** “Mild herbal and fruity aroma, with bits of grass and tangerine. Some spicy, earthy hops notes complemented by lemon, roses, and pears. Medium hops aroma with grapefruit and orange, with slight pepper that starts to shine as it warms.” **Flavor:** “Complex flavors with big notes of coriander and pepper, and the spiciness plays well with the orange, tangerine, and lemongrass characteristics. Moderately sweet with a bit of hops bitterness at the finish. Gentle malt in the back, with some mild astringency.” **Overall:** “Provides some interesting complexity between spice, fruitiness, and citrus. The earthy spice is really pleasant, and is a good take on a traditional French saison. Carbonation is pretty low, which comes off a bit heavy, giving it a harsher finish.”
