Boston Beer Company / Samuel Adams New World Tripel
Aroma: “Smells bright and refreshing. Rich Pilsner malt, solid peppery phenols, good esters: cherry and pineapple. Prominent yeast notes, those of spice and stone fruit that meld into a pleasant vanilla and mild chocolate sweetness. Orange and orange peel. Slight banana phenols and a bit of vanilla and oak.”
Flavor: “Solid wood character includes vanilla sweet notes that mellow the light tartness from orange esters. Pineapple, cherry, and banana esters are prominent with earthy floral hops. Bready Pilsner malt and clove and pepper phenols. Finishes dry with medium-high alcohol warmth. Well-balanced for the style, though hops are very subdued.”
Overall: “Enjoyable and sweet for a tripel, but the flavors blend well. The intense vanilla character works wonderfully with an already intense and well-crafted tripel. The barrel is well integrated.”
