Pinkus Hefe Weizen

What the brewers say

“Very light in body and color. Crisp, dry, spritzy, and refreshing unfiltered beer.”

What our panel thought

Floral hops character that leans toward being a bit soapy. Minimal spice/ester profile, slight note of non-distinct light fruit. Chewy body with a lingering sweetness that comes across a bit heavy, though there’s a nice effervescence on the finish that brightens it.”

What our editors thought

“The first whiff is more bitter than expected, but that doesn’t carry through to the sip as an orange-lime sweetness pulls through with a hint of citric tartness.”

Wektenburger Kloster Hefeweisbier

“This beer pours beautifully with a billowing white head and a hazy straw color. The aroma is light on fruity esters and clove, while showing woody and herbal hops aroma. Tart wheat flavor in the initial sip, with subtle hefe character. A sweet, filling beer.”

KC Bier Co. Hefeweizen

“Aroma has the expected hefe notes with an unexpected element of tobacco. Fruity esters are assertive, with a tart citrus and wheat background. High carbonation keeps it refreshing, with a lingering sweetness.”

Hofbrau Hefe Weizen

**Aroma:** “The wheat dominates, and the clove develops as the beer warms. Then the banana sweetness shows, along with some floral and fruit-tree blossom esters, and a floral hops note. It has an earthy, oyster umami aroma that’s not unpleasant.” **Flavor:** “Rich banana sweetness, with immense chewy wheat. Grassy hops and bitterness are evenly balanced with the bready wheat malt and linger through the finish. Yeast esters and phenolics are interesting without dominating. Some fusel high alcohols and light pork come through in the finish.” **Overall:** “What a nice banana and yeast character. It goes really well with the funky malt, chewy wheat body, banana, and spiciness. The hops dominate a bit more in the bitterness than in the flavor, more than you would find in typical German interpretations.”
