What the brewers say

"This classic German style is light and refreshing. Perfect for combating the summer heat."

What our panel thought

"Grainy sweet and a kiss of spritzy apple in the aroma and flavor. Low malt sweetness up front. Low bitterness that finishes nice and clean. Perfectly balanced and just a touch drying bitterness in the finish. Some huskiness, but a light apple crunch that lingers around. Refreshing tanginess to counter the burlier malt backbone. Graininess lasts through the flavor, but the spicy, herbal hops and great attenuation keep this beer refreshing, light, and quaffable."

What our editors thought

"Pear and slightly aged herbal hops in the aroma—almost feels like it spent some time on a boat. Clean with a fruity malt note in the sip, a touch low on sufur and slightly undercarbed, suppressing some Kolsch brightness."

Twin Barns Brewing Company Einer Noch

“A grainy nose with a hint of toast, a light ester, a kiss of floral hops. Whisper of honey on toast and a light bitterness in the flavor. A smooth, clean, dry finish that is gone in the blink of an eye.”

Cerebral Brewing Rain Shadow

“Brilliantly clean with malt, hops, and fruity esters in a delectable balance. Nice crispy apple and pear aroma with a tinge of floral honey. Clean with a cheeky hint of bitterness to finish. Pin-pricking carbonation cleanses the palate for a refreshingly clear rush of fruit-tinged, crackery goodness. A great beer for any occasion that captures significant flavor despite the very light body. Finishes with a soft and dry mouthfeel that begs for another sip. Very agreeable.”

Roadmap Brewing Co Minor In Italian

In the aroma, floral notes, some hints of grass, a hint of graininess, sulfur, and dash of pepper-spiced hops. Sweet biscuit/cookie-like malt, light bubblegum. The balance is toward the sweetness of the malt with the bitterness somewhat muted behind that. Very sweet on the approach before drying out for the finish.
