Unsung Brewing Company Psionic: Raspberry Sour

What the brewers say

Single-batch sour with extra raspberry puree!

What our panel thought

The aroma is a bowl of fresh-picked raspberries, reminiscent of those found in the wild. The raspberry flavor is on the sweeter and slightly syrupy side, with a bit of funk in the background. Lingering tannin in the finish adds to the complexity. Pleasantly tart, mildly acidic. Fruit character complements the base beer well.

What our editors thought

The nose blends the expected raspberry with a touch of tannic, almost-blueberry depth. The sip is all raspberry, though, in an intense but real fruit way that captures a touch of greenness along with seed and skin lower notes. Rich but singular in its raspberry approach.

Uhl’s Brewing Co Raspricot Shleemies

“Deep pink pour. Brilliant citrus-hop nose with a soft honey note. Full body, with citrus-tropical hop juice shining all the way with a raspberry touch. Intriguing blend of hops and fruit. Pleasant acidity.”

Jester King Brewery 2019 SPON Three Year

Peach, apricot, light vanilla, pineapple, light Brett horse blanket, touches of earth and dust. Medium acidity, light oak in aroma and flavor, sour-musty balance.

Black Shirt Brewing Co. Pleasure to Meet You

Orange Julius nose, tangerine, pineapple, melon, light pear, hint of aged cheese. Low sweetness, moderate acidity accentuates juicy flavor. Strawberry, pear, hints of wool blanket, smoke in the finish. Doesn’t cross into IPA territory, but close. Complex, with weird edges, coming together well.
