Untitled Art NA Watermelon Gose

What the brewers say

“Brewed and fermented with real watermelon, key lime, and sea salt.”

What our panel thought

“Watermelon and rind in the aroma with drops of lime and agave. Some funky fermentation character. A sweet full body smacks the palate with watermelon pulp. Salty toward the back. Aftertaste of sweet fruit punch.”

What our editors thought

“Melon with a touch of bready wort in the aroma, defined by a rather strong cucumber edge. Sweet and sprawling in the sip as the fruit smoothie notes are punctuated by just a bit of hop bitterness that reminds you it’s beer.”

Bootstrap Brewing Sparkalicious Sunrise

“Vibrant cherry-orange Creamsicle aromas. Fresh fruit flows throughout the mouth, doesn’t feel artificial. The jammy impression lasts into the finish. Not overly sweet but gives the impression of sweetness. The cherry and orange notes sing in harmony.”

Half Acre Beer Co Orin

“Aromas of bourbon with molasses, sweet caramel, oak, heavy brown sugar. Flavor is sweet, warming. Layers of bourbon, vanilla, leather intertwine. Some molasses, in both viscosity and flavor. A wonderful sipper.”

Terrapin Watermelon Gose

**Aroma:** “Under-ripe watermelon up front gives way to a hint of funk that comes across a bit musty, but not unpleasant. Tartness comes through as lime juice, perhaps pineapple. Earthy undertone with a phenolic edge, with a vegetal note and musty/sweaty aromas.” **Flavor:** “Underripe or watermelon rind with some lemon and lime mixed in, almost like a watermelon margarita. That tartness is accentuated by a hint of salt that’s funky and refreshing. Some of the fruit sweetness creeps back into the finish, and the aftertaste is all melon and salt.” **Overall:** “A challenging spiced sour beer—the extra spice is just on the far side of identifiable. It tastes like trying to get the last hint of watermelon from the rind, eaten with salty fingers. Not terribly complex, but enough fruit to be interesting and refreshing on a warm summer day.”
