SweetWater Woodlands Chattahoochee Release #4

What the brewers say

“Inspired by the classic Hawaiian POG juice, this golden sour is blended with more than 500 pounds of passion fruit, blood orange, and guava. Four sour projects, ranging from 6-months- to 2-years-old, make up the base for this tropical-fruit sour. Expressive notes of each fruit and a touch of sweetness balance the full acidity of this aged and fruit-forward sour.”

What our panel thought

Aroma: “Moderate generic citrus with orange, tangerine, and lemon up front. Wet wood and a hint of vanilla behind that. Bready malt supports the fruity and woody aroma.”

Flavor: “Ripe peach, grape skin. Sour character is really nice; it’s not overpowering and is very soft on the finish, leaving a lingering fruity, pepper quality. Tannins on the finish add a perception of bitterness and balance, though it’s a wee bit heavy on the overall impression.”

Overall: “A restrained yet complex sour beer with a pleasant tartness throughout and hints of lemon, peach, and white pepper. The spicy character seems to come primarily from the barrel.”
