St. Elmo Brewing Company Slowpoke
What the brewers say
“Hoppy lager.”
What our panel thought
“Floral cream soda nose? Sure, why not. And the hop profile gets even more weird—menthol, pear, dried fruit—but it works. Balanced, very restrained bitterness to keep other aggressive flavors out of the mix. Mint and tea-like profile, totally bohemian and on top of flavor trends. Interesting and well done.”
What our editors thought
“Cold IPA precision with modern hops presence, it’s just ‘juicy’ enough in the nose, but the sip sacrifices some needed bitterness at the altar of fruit.”
