Triple Crossing All Neon Like

What the brewers say

“Our reformulated crushable Australian hops–inspired IPA with Galaxy and Vic Secret.”

What our panel thought

Aroma: “Very high hops intensity, fruity, and grassy. You can almost smell the alpha acids. Predominantly lemon, peach, orange. Soft bready malt character adds some complexity.”

Flavor: “Chewy, hoppy mouthfeel with lemon and orange giving way to a grassy and fairly bitter finish that isn’t astringent, and leaves you wanting another sip. Some low-level spicy notes peek through.”

Overall: “A very distinct and unique aroma that hints at complex flavor profile that delivers.”

Westfax Brewing All Together

Solid tangerine, orange-citrus, peach-pineapple—like a glass of sugary Dole juice blend; a fuzzy navel. Huge hop-flavor punch of pineapple, orange citrus. Light malt presence, just hints of bready sweetness. Mouthfeel pretty thin; carbonation cutting through softness. Finishes quite dry. Smooth drinkability.

Deschutes Brewery Fresh Squeezed IPA

**Aroma:** “Smells like Smarties and perfume. Hops are a bit muted and come through as citrus (lemon and grapefruit) and floral (rose and raspberry), followed by a malt sweetness with hints of caramel. This is a citrus bomb with a big floral note.” **Flavor:** “Very light and fruity. Very low bittering hops (with an herbal, lemon pith profile) and a high amount of flavoring hops—floral, fruity. Very slight astringency in the finish. A bready, cracker-like body. Finish is almost sweet and out of balance for the style.” **Overall:** “A bit overwhelming from the fruity hops perspective and a little bit sweet for an IPA. Could use a little more brightness to make it pop. Too much malt sweetness and the hops aroma seemed to over-promise and under-deliver in flavor. I liked the hops complexity but wanted more of it in the flavor.”

Creature Comforts The Silent World

Aroma: “Nice amount of roast, subtle smoke, black licorice, barbecue-pit whiffs mixed with peat smoke and bready malt. No discernable hops aroma.” Flavor: “Upfront roast with notes of coffee and charred malt with no astringency or unneeded lingering. Toasted bread crust. Very crushable. Peat smoke and bready malt lead to a smooth and balanced finish that is remarkably clean and refreshing.” Overall: “Wonderful roasted-malt character that is not heavy-handed, but still assertive. The body and slight sweetness balance the mild phenolic notes, resulting in a beer that both has some tooth and is easy to drink. Sort of a peaty Scottish meets a dunkel, in the best of all possible ways.”
