Revolution Brewing Company Anti-Hero IPA

What the brewers say

“An American hops assault for all the ambivalent warriors who get the girl in the end. This iconic ale features a blend of four hops varieties, which creates a crisp bitterness and imparts massive floral and citrus aromas.”

What our panel thought

Aroma: “A light Froot-Loops hops character and a caramel sweet malt aroma. Hints of peaches, grapefruit, and dank and pine hops up front.”

Flavor: “Classic pine and grapefruit citrus hops with a hint of dank thrown in. Malt backbone is there but subtle, and yeast is clean. Finish is somewhat dry and bitter but not lingering.”

Overall: “A solid beer, but not exciting enough for an IPA. It comes across more like a pale ale. Pleasant and well-executed IPA that seems to fall more in line with pale ales than IPAs, but still very tasty and a great change of pace for the style.”

Bootstrap Brewing Sparkalicious Sunrise

“Vibrant cherry-orange Creamsicle aromas. Fresh fruit flows throughout the mouth, doesn’t feel artificial. The jammy impression lasts into the finish. Not overly sweet but gives the impression of sweetness. The cherry and orange notes sing in harmony.”

2nd Shift Brewing Co Art of Neurosis

“The nose is dank and earthy, but fairly muted. Light floral, resin, and pineapple. Medium malt, high firm bitterness. The flavor pivots to a dark, resinous pine paired with a little toasty malt and resin, pepper, light diesel, and orange or grapefruit citrus. Bitterness builds in the aftertaste.”

Against the Grain Brewery Rico Sauvin

**Aroma:** “Grapefruit and piney hops aromas with a hint of lemon. Moderate malt sweetness, hints of biscuit and caramel. Nice hops aroma on the front. Fresh.” **Flavor:** “Bright and juicy hops notes are high on avor and moderate on bitterness. Finish is clean with only a hint of astringency. Malt is lightly sweet and balanced perfectly with the moderate hops bitterness. Slight astringency in the bitterness distracts from the otherwise pleasant finish. The juicy character of the beer carries through to the finish and sits beside the bitter aspects from the hops in this beer.” **Overall:** “Good, balanced, easy-drinking IIPA. Mostly citrus with a touch of floral, and a touch of earthy resin at the end. The finish is what really makes it—very clean and citrusy with notes of orange peel and lemon. It sacrifices bombast for solid drinkability making for a fine beer.”
