Tallgrass Brewing Company Ethos IPA

What the brewers say

“Crafted from a palette of six hops varieties and double dry-hopped with three different types of hops, this beer has an aroma that is big, bright, and beautiful and a taste that explodes with notes of pine, resin, grapefruit, and caramel.”

What our panel thought

Aroma: “Very floral, light peppery notes and a hint of malt sweetness. Lemon and tangerine hops up front with a hint of pine.”

Flavor: “Very nice light sweeter citrus notes with hints of tangerine, lemon, and grapefruit and some piney, grassy, and resinous hops flavor too. Hint of carbonic bite in the finish. Delicate malt sweetness supports without getting in the way. Finishes somewhat dry and bitter but not lingering.”

Overall: “Very nice balance of hops flavor and bitterness. Light, approachable example of an American IPA with some newer hops complexity and a restrained bitterness that makes it great for a variety of palates. The body is a little thin, but hardly worth worrying over.”

Slice Beer Company Megablaster

“Significant diesel and dank aroma initially, then light lime notes. Very simple malt flavor dominated by hop flavors of pine, diesel, pithy citrus peel, black pepper, hints of anise and grass. Firm bitterness. Finish is a touch fruity sweet.”

Triple Crossing Brewing Company Whitewater DIPA

“Dank, sweaty tropical hops ooze from the cup; lemongrass and herbs mix with garlic and green onion notes. Brilliant tropical fruit flavors run across the palate over a soft, sweet malt canvas; notes of onion-like spice, resinous pine, hints of green tea. Complex, but doesn’t coalesce. Overall, too sweet. Needs some restraint.”

Golden Road Brewing Point The Way IPA

**Aroma:** “Freshly zested lemon and grassy hops aromas with a light malt sweetness. Pine, grapefruit, and tangerine with some floral notes. Fruity—peach and melon with a hint of lemon zest. No green hops aroma.” **Flavor:** “Very bright at the front of the palate, fades very quickly. Moderate lemon, grass, and grapefruit avors with just enough bitterness that drops into a dry finish. Almost effervescent with a slight carbonic bite. Malt body is light but enough to support the moderate hops profile. Piney and spicy with slight peppery notes. Very clean finish with a long-lasting bitterness.” **Overall:** “Bright and refreshing with just enough malt body to stay in balance. A superbly ‘clean’ beer with just the right amount of bitterness to let you know it’s an IPA without overpowering the avor hops. A great lawnmower beer with less apparent alcohol level, built for drinking more than one.”
