“Our Peche relaxed in experienced oak barrels for nearly a year with several strains of Brettanomyces and various souring organisms. After it aged in the barrels, we added fresh, whole peaches from Palisade, Colorado.”

What our panel thought

Aroma: “Fresh peaches up front, with a hint of apricot and even nectarine. Slight sulfur, light pineapple and banana. Brett funk and fruitiness come through in the nose. Hints of smoky, burnt rubber—a bit phenolic. Tartness comes through mostly as lactic acid, reminiscent of a Berliner or Gose.”

Flavor: “Nice peach fruitiness with a touch of apricot. A very subtle hint of butter along with the peach. Tart citric sourness quickly melds with fairly strong peaches and starts to overtake the fruit. The Brett character adds complexity without too much funk. Slight undertone of rubber/sulfur lingers in the aftertaste. Touch of husky graininess at the tail end.”

Overall: “Good sour, but a little thin, and the fruit characteristics are pretty light. Nice showcase of peach character with a decent tartness and acidity that could be dialed back just a bit more to better highlight the fruit.”

West Sixth Brewing Sixfold VI: Blackberries

Ripe blackberry nose with additional layers of oak and cherries atop an underlying barnyard Brett character. Well-balanced mouthfeel. Initial jammy berry flavor quickly overtaken by strong oak, which becomes dominant. A wood beer with fruit flavor.

AC Golden Brewing Company Kriek

**Aroma:** “Cherry aroma with some wild horse-blanket character. Tart cherry, lemon, acidic, cranberry-like tartness.” **Flavor:** “Eye-watering tartness that lasts long into the linger. Some sour cherry in the background. The lactic lemon tartness carries through this beer from the start to the finish. Some subtle sweet cherry notes sit behind the lactic tartness while the carbonation helps provide a little warmth in the finish.” **Overall:** “Very, very tart. If there were more cherries but the same amount of sweetness it would be perfect for me. If you like mouth-puckering sour candy, then you would like this beer. Enjoyable and left me wanting to drink more.”

Silver City Brewery Sultry Siren

Raspberry, blackberry, medicinal cherry, and black currant notes jump from the glass. Juicy, ripe-blackberry flavor. Low, lingering sweetness helps to balance the pleasant but somewhat sharp sourness. What if Luden's cough drops were sour candies? Clean, dry finish with low astringency. Reasonably fun to smell and sip; a bit tough to drink.
