AleSmith Brewing Co IPA

What the brewers say

“Aromas of grapefruit and tangerine lead into an abundance of fresh pine and tropical fruit.”

What our panel thought

“Buttery, rich aroma with some tropical- fruit hops. Light caramel-malt sweetness mingles with orange marmalade, strawberry, and fruit punch–like notes, with a hint of pine in the background. Caramel and biscuit-like flavor notes carry the orange and piney bitterness. Finish is dry and crisp.”

What our editors thought

“Soft orange and pine on the nose, while the flavor brings a throwback element of caramel to the mix for a nostalgic but classic feel.”

2nd Shift Brewing Co Art of Neurosis

“The nose is dank and earthy, but fairly muted. Light floral, resin, and pineapple. Medium malt, high firm bitterness. The flavor pivots to a dark, resinous pine paired with a little toasty malt and resin, pepper, light diesel, and orange or grapefruit citrus. Bitterness builds in the aftertaste.”

AleSmith Brewing Co Party Tricks IPA

“Big aroma of candied oranges, bubblegum, and cotton candy, with a hint of bready malt. Flavors are bright orange zest, lemons, honeydew, a hint of earthy hops, and a little grassy hop note. A crisp citrusy and melon finish works nicely.”

__Aroma:__ “Peach, lemon, tangerine, and piney up front. A bit of herbal, grassy, floral, and pineapple in the background. Toasty/bready malt is bigger than I’d expect.” __Flavor:__ “Simple malt bill with a touch of toasted character plays second fiddle to the light colored citrus hops (orange, grapefruit, lemon). Some earthy spice notes as well hit in the middle of the taste. Balance is great for the style, though a bit under-carbonated. Bitterness is present but not overwhelming.” __Overall:__ “Peach up front with a more classic West Coast IPA aroma in the background. Good balance of malt sweetness and assertive bitterness. Well-made beer.”
