Pure Project Madeline

What the brewers say

A blend of mixed-fermentation saisons aged in French oak barrels.

What our panel thought

Subdued, perfume-like aroma with light, nutty grain and lime zest. Flavor joins crackery malt with smashed lemons and light attic-dust on billowy carbonation that dissolves into a dry yet bright-and-tangy finish. Balanced. Grounded by an earthy quality that never gets muddy.

What our editors thought

Crisp tropical nose of passion fruit and guava collide with subtle black pepper. The sip bends tropical, projecting sweetness despite the beer’s dryness. Fruity acidity reinforces the theme, with a sharp hit that quickly fades in a broad tropical-fruit note. Big and intense.

Pure Project Forgotten Brilliance

“Piney forest aromas dominate the nose, with brown sugar, light figs, wet grain. Heavy tones of caramel malt wrapped in vibrant dark-fruit notes. Sweet malt finish with a warming alcohol presence.”

Pure Project Lief

Gin-like aroma—herbal, floral—with musty lemons and grapefruits balanced by cellar funk. Enticing, bookish. Flavor brings gin botanicals, woody citrus, grapefruit—oddly sweet and bitter, muddling the acidity. Lively mouthfeel on fluffy carbonation, smooth finish. Sticky tobacco-tar bitterness.

Birds Fly South Ale Project Saison is Dead: Mosaic

Musty lemon-lime nose, peppery and herbal, with soft, nutty wet grain and a touch of grassy hops. Moderately earthy-bitter with a faint tangy edge; wheaty malt, grassy hops, light peppery notes, and a touch of barnyard funk. Dry finish. Muddled. Earthy and dour.
