Sun King Brewing Osiris Pale Ale

What the brewers say

An assertive West Coast–style pale with a distinct citrus-hop punch.

What our panel thought

Clear and golden color to go with clean pilsner-like aroma: cracker malt and Noble-hop spice. Interesting flavor: floral, Noble, and a sweet, creamy taste. Clean, easy-drinking. Symbiotic bitterness, hop flavor, and malt profile. Subtle, pleasant, elegant.

What our editors thought

Bready caramel-orange nose with a touch of forest spice. The sip is classic pale—orange and pine, light caramel notes, and the warming comfort of nostalgia. Well executed.

Sun King Osiris Pale Ale

Aroma: “A nice blend of pine and citrus (mostly grapefruit) and a slight floral/spice character with caramel and a grainy malt sweetness.” Flavor: “Orange, grapefruit, pine, touch of lemon, and strawberry. Caramel sweetness with a lingering toasted bread character. Balance is slightly sweet from all of the perceived esters, but the bitterness supports things well and finishes clean. Has just enough English pale-ale character to remind you where American pale ales came from.” Overall: “Nice APA that showcases solid process and fresh ingredients. Love the hops profile! A light, easy-drinking pale ale that is balanced and well- made. It would be a great beer after a hard day’s work outside.”

Omission Beer Pale Ale

**Aroma:** “Nice biscuit sweetness with a pleasant hops aroma of citrus and pine. A touch of DMS up front—creamed corn. Hops character is low for the style. Substantial tree-fruit esters.” **Flavor:** “The sweetness of this beer hits first with some biscuit notes, then the hops march in and provide complexity. Orange and grapefruit are present with hops that evoke mint, flowers, and citrus. Light malt bread flavor and a low caramel in the finish as it warms; not as assertive on hops character as desired for the style, but still very pleasant.” **Overall:** “This beer provides a good balance of hops and malt with a tasty malt background. It’s a decent pale ale with some nice malt character but a bit subdued on the hops profile. Could use a bit more hops in the aroma and flavor. Full malt character, but a somewhat boring hops presence. No noticeable detraction from the gluten reduction.”

Sun King Brewing Sunlight Cream Ale

Candied peach and strawberry notes coupled with hints of pine and sugar cookies. Bready taste with light herbal hops; hints of strawberry, peach, lemon. A flash of sweet, a bit of corn, and the finish fades away. Heftier body than expected but finishes crisp and clean.
