What the brewers say

“Baltic porter. A collaboration with Amalgam.”

What our panel thought

“Rich toasted bread collides with molasses and just a touch of dark fruit. Light hints of smoked salami and bacon. Maillard-reacted thick and heavy layers in both aroma and flavor. Roast coffee and hints of light caramel in the flavor slowly fade into notes of dark cherry, toffee, and leather with a touch of spicy bitterness in the finish.”

What our editors thought

“Distant smoke phenols over red-grape malt notes in the nose. The sip is woody, nutty, and sparse, with a lean malt sweetness that’s just enough to support its heft.”

Dovetail Brewery Baltic-Style Porter

Aroma ranges from toasted breadcrust to treacle—roasty, with accents of hazelnut, brown sugar, molasses, raisin, plum, and coffee. Balanced, subtle sweetness in the flavor, roast and caramel with notes of chocolate, praline, sherry. Body is lighter than expected, but the subtlety makes you wish everything was turned up just a few notches.

Halfway Crooks Beer Bash

“Clean and subtle, with low roasted and chocolate malt character. Super-smooth and rich flavor with medium-low chocolate notes. Medium-full body and creamy, but not sweet in the finish. Bitterness supports well and keeps the sweetness in check.”

Sierra Nevada Brewing Co Sunny Little Thing

“Lemon and orange notes in the aroma are complemented by tropical notes of pineapple and sweet grapefruit. The same notes carry into the flavor, well-supported by a bready malt sweetness. Hop flavor seems both tropical and floral with grassy notes.”
