Blackbird Brewery Apothecary Porter

What the brewers say

“Brewed with 16 malts. Fermented with lager yeast.”

What our panel thought

“Nose of dark chocolate, red fruits, vanilla, bread. Molasses leads the flavor profile with some dark bread crusts and unsweetened chocolate. Nice balance between maltiness and bitterness. Espresso and mocha flavors, with enough bitterness to balance.”

What our editors thought

“Very subtle bread-crust nose with faint chocolate tones and a bit of tangerine. Slightly astringent, with assertive malt tannins. Lighter bitterness without excessive sweetness.”

Blackbird Brewery Hungry Are The Damned

“Strong Oreo-cookie aroma. Solid cocoa, light coffee, notable coconut. Lots of nuttiness. Nice, bright coconut flavor. While quite sweet, the depth of chocolate bitterness holds it in balance. Warming in the finish.”

Blackbird Brewery Johann Sebastian Bock Maibock

“Light aroma of dark bread crust, light caramel, light floral, and peppery hops. Light hop soapiness. Toasted malt flavors quickly give way to a soapy bitterness that lingers well into the clean, crisp finish.”

Blackbird Brewery Night Of The Living Peanut Butter Porter

“Initial sniff bursts with vanilla, chocolate, and peanut butter. Hints of toasted coconut and roasted malt. Flavor delivers the same in a no-nonsense package that finishes dry. Smooth, surprisingly light body with a clean, firm bitterness that matches well with the sweetness.”
