Breakside Brewery Bellwether

What the brewers say

“Stainless-soured wheat beer aged in gin barrels with Thai lime leaves. Inspired by gimlets and rickeys.”

What our panel thought

“Brilliant straw gold with a foamy white head. Layered aroma of candied orange peel, herbal tea, juniper, and fortified white wine supported by grainy and spicy notes. Tasting, a wave of orange, both fruit and pith, jasmine, white tea, white pepper, and the lightest touch of pineapple tang at the end. Mouthfeel is spot-on; residual sugars allow the beer to do its magic, but it’s not sweet. Alcohol adds to the experience. The aftertaste is herbal and gin-like, with a dry and warming finish and an almost pithy citrus aftertaste. A very interesting drinking experience that is like bow-tie cocktail meets solid beer.”

What our editors thought

“Tight gin botanicals in the nose with light berry and crisp citrus. Bitter but fresh sip, woody and herbal initially softened by sweeter citrus as the bitterness fades.”

Breakside Brewery & Taproom The Trappings and The Suits of Woe

“Rich, deep roast-forward aroma complements assertive oak and whiskey aromas. Deep chocolate, espresso with notes of fig, light raisin. Light espresso. Finish is boozy, but extremely smooth. Very rich, chewy, creamy all at once.”

Reuben's Brews Fruitfizz Lemon+Lime

“Lemon and lime Skittles, a refreshing medley of lemon and lime essences. The aroma is clean and fresh. It has great carbonation and effervescence. Its citrus is light and pleasantly crisp. A soft acidic tartness lingers.”

Breakside Brewery Breakside Pilsner

Floral hop aroma with citrus hints and an evident but complementary minerality. On the palate, crackery malt character cuts through perfumey hop-bitterness. Light body, any unnecessary heft has been carved out. Extremely clean. Beautifully crafted.
