Breakside Brewery Wanderjack IPA

What the brewers say

“West Coast IPA.”

What our panel thought

“Pine resin, green onion, ramps, pineapple in the aroma with lemongrass and orange supporting. A hint of bready malt in the background. The flavor retains a bit of onion, but the pineapple comes through even stronger. Finishes dry, clean, and bitter with a moderate dank retronasal character and a moderate, fading sweetness.”

What our editors thought

“Toasted tropical fruit with a warm and rounded edge, photographed at the golden hour. Clean and effortless bitterness with an unbearable lightness—all the things quickly become nothing.”

Breakside Brewery Wanderlust IPA

“Aroma and flavor echo a tangerine-citrus note, with hints of fruity apricot lingering into a clean and bitter finish. Slight grassy and dank notes add dimension. The lingering finish showcases the excellent choices and techniques of the brewer.”

Breakside Brewery @Portland’s IPA

“Bready malt and woody/piney hops meld seamlessly. Touch of basil (stronger in the retronasal), hint of caramel. Fruitier in the mouth, including stone fruit, touch of pomme, apricot. Subtle bitterness, clean finish.”

Upslope Brewing Company - Flatiron Park West Coast IPA

“Beautiful to look at, bright pale gold, thick head, excellent lacing. Touch of sulfur at the outset blows off, allowing stone fruit to take over: peachy, hint of lemon meringue. Lemon and citrus more apparent on the tongue. Touch herbaceous at the finish, adding complexity, making it more-ish.”
