What the brewers say

“With Mosaic and Simcoe hops.”

What our panel thought

“Hints of diesel, green onion, notes of peach, lemon, white grape, touch of pine, perfume in the nose. Flavor runs parallel to the nose with a light malt sweetness supporting the peach, grapefruit, earthy, floral, pine-like notes. Bright carbonic bite tempers the sweetness, gives an impression of dryness, crispness.”

What our editors thought

“Herbal pineapple with a light fennel note in the aroma. A touch of Thai basil offers a bitter counterpoint to the softer fruit tones in the flavor.”

Breckenridge Brewery Breck IPA

**Aroma:** “Intense orange and zest with light lemony character and faint grassiness. Candied sweetness akin to General Tso’s chicken sauce (without the chicken). A touch of malty sweetness and faint estery notes that may be yeast or hops. A very unique and curious aroma for the style.” **Flavor:** “Juicy orange flavors, followed by moderate caramel and a long, pleasant bitterness. Similar to aroma, the hops flavor is floral and slightly herbal with a bit of that butterscotch-candy flavor up front. Prominent bitterness, but cut by the malt so as not to induce dry mouth.” **Overall:** “An enjoyable IPA that hints at adventure but ultimately remains cautious (in a good way). Lovely orange character is refreshing—a unique and tasty IPA that would stand out from other more citrus-hop-driven IPAs of current popularity. The touch of banana in the middle is interesting and works with the toasty notes.”

Cellarmaker Brewing Company Night of the Living Dank

“Mango tree in a pine forest. Enticing aroma evokes lemon drops, freshly torn lime peel, and a piney hit of rosemary. The hop flavor emerges beautifully on the palate, given a boost from light malt sweetness and smooth, even bitterness. Lingering impression of lemon-lime candy.”

Cellarmaker Brewing Company Christopher Riwakan

Nose of kiwi, apricot, light diesel—funky and earthy. Unique flavor with perplexing complexity—funky, fruity, with big dank notes. Nice hop bite up front, with some almost burnt hop notes, and pineapple, melon, peach, citrus all dancing around each other. Soft mouthfeel, finishing very dry, slightly chalky. Unique. Enjoyable.
